Quentin Grimes and the Philadelphia 76ers are trending towards a one-year deal, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Grimes is a restricted free agent. He’s not at Sixers media day.
“With the deadline looming, the outcome for Quentin Grimes and the Philadelphia 76ers is trending towards a one-year deal, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote. “At this point, it’s a matter of whether both sides can find common ground on a balloon one-year offer, or if Grimes will prioritize a no-trade clause with his qualifying offer salary of $8.7 million.”
Grimes played for the Dallas Mavericks and Sixers last season. He averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks in 75 games while shooting 46.7% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 75.7% from the free-throw line.
The Sixers acquired Grimes from the Mavericks on February 4. Grimes appeared in 28 games with Philadelphia, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 46.9% overall, 37.3% from 3 and 75.2% from the foul line.
A Houston native, Grimes has played for the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Mavericks and Sixers. He enters this season with career averages of 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks.
“Should no balloon one-year offer come to fruition, Grimes will strongly consider signing his one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer and retaining his no-trade clause flexibility, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.
The Sixers missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 2017. All-Stars Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey only played in 15 games together due to injuries.
