As the NBA trade deadline approaches, one team to keep an eye on is the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings have had a terrible start to the season after they were expected to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference. They are currently outside of the playoff picture and hold an abysmal 13-17 record.
Despite their struggles, their star duo of Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox have been on fire this season. Both players are putting together one of the best seasons of their careers, but it has not led to much success for the franchise.
Because of this, the Kings are expected to be active in the trade market before the Feb. 6 trade deadline to help turn their season around. If they are unable to do so, they could be at risk of losing Fox.
There have been multiple reports of teams monitoring Fox’s situation in Sacramento. It all started when he declined the Kings’ contract extension before the season as he wanted to see them build a winning team. He also commented on his future last week and mentioned that he wants to play for a winning team.
With the Kings not winning much, he could force his way out as early as this season. According to Dusty Garza of News 4 San Antonio, the Kings are reportedly exploring the trade market for Fox and there have been four teams who have had talks with Sacramento. One of those teams is the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors have had a terrible season, but acquiring a young All-Star point guard could help them build for the future. In a possible trade, the Kings could send Fox to Toronto for Bruce Brown, Chris Boucher and draft capital.
For the Kings, they would acquire a new point guard in Brown as well as a defensive-minded big man in Boucher. By making this trade, they could still turn their season around and make a late push for the playoffs with a retooled roster led by DeRozan and Sabonis.
