Raptors Trade Davion Mitchell To Heat

The Toronto Raptors have made another deal.

They are sending Davion Mitchell to the Miami Heat for PJ Tucker, a second-round pick and cash considerations, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Mitchell played in 44 games for the Raptors this season averaging 6.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists in 24.5 minutes per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from three. The Raptors acquired him from the Sacramento Kings last summer.

During his time in Toronto Mitchell was solid defensively for the team. He stepped up during Immanuel Quickley’s recent absence and it was his on-ball defense that helped the Raptors overall defensive identity leading to the best stretch of the season.

With Jamal Shead’s rise he overtook Mitchell in the rotation once the Raptors got healthy. Also he’s on an expiring $6.5 million contract so after the Raptors big trade for Brandon Ingram, it felt likely that the team was going to move on from Mitchell. The Raptors also get draft compensation this deal for helping the Heat shed salary.

It’s expected that the Raptors are going to buy out Tucker’s contract if he isn’t rerouted in another deal before the 3 p.m. trade deadline. Tucker returns to the Raptors where he was originally drafted 35th overall in 2006.

For Miami, they are trying to push for the playoffs so Mitchell is a nice add to them. He will help boost the Heat’s perimeter defense and gives them more depth at the guard position.
