'Reached Out to the Team' – Golden State Warriors Star Reportedly Asked the Front Office About Their Plans

The Golden State Warriors have remained passive in free agency. Mainly, it’s because the Warriors haven’t been able to negotiate a contract with free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga. This has stalled their plans over the summer, as they are the only team, aside from the Oklahoma City Thunder, that hasn’t made changes to their roster. The big difference with the Warriors and Thunder is that the latter won the NBA championship last season and has no reason to make additions or changes.

The contract stalemate between the two sides has dragged on for more than two months already. This has caused All-Star forwards Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler to reach out to Kuminga and check in on the disgruntled player.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson, Butler has also approached the Warriors’ front office amid the situation with the Warriors. The six-time All-Star reportedly wants to know the team’s plans ahead of the 2025-26 season.

“In that ESPN article, they mentioned that Draymond and Jimmy have checked in and reached out to Jonathan Kuminga. I can confidently say that Jimmy Butler has also reached out to the team and been like, ‘what’s going on here? I just wanted to know the plan.’” Johnson reported.

Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors last season from the Miami Heat. The star forward wanted to contend for a championship and forced his way out of the South Beach team. With the former No. 30 pick, Golden State made it as far as the second round of the postseason.

Butler and the Warriors were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.

Contract negotiations are one of the most time-consuming aspects in the NBA. Unless both sides agree on a certain number, the dialogue regarding it could take time. This is why the Golden State Warriors’ talks with Kuminga have taken up a lot of their free agency this summer.

Green confirmed that it takes a while until the two sides can agree on something. The four-time champion commented on it on the social media platform “Threads” on Monday.

“Negotiations are rarely easy,” Green wrote, “but they usually get done in the end.”

No one knows how long it will take until both sides can agree on something, so the Warriors can move on to other concerns.
