The Toronto Raptors are a perfect 2-0 in Summer League after a 84-81 win over the Denver Nuggets.
The Raptors were led by Javon Freeman-Liberty who finished with a game-high 16 points.
The game came down to the wire as the Raptors were able to overcome Julian Strawther’s 32-point performance to hold on to the win.
Toronto’s rookies were impressive in this win. Jamal Shead continued to show off his defensive intensity and hight motor. He also displayed nice playmaking chops and a fluid jumpshot. He finished with 9 points on 3-4 shooting, 5 assists and 3 rebounds.
Branden Carlson had another strong showing. He didn’t quite shoot it as well from the field as he did in the Raptors first game, but his defense was on full display. He finished the game with 6 blocks to go along with 7 rebounds.
Ja’Kobe Walter had a better game two in Summer League for Toronto. He shot just 2-6 from three, but he looked a lot more comfortable and smooth with his delivery. He was able to get to the line four times, making all four free throw attempts.
Jonathan Mogbo finished with 5 points in 9 minutes of action, but unfortunately he left the game in the second-half due to a back contusion after taking a hard fall.
Ulrich Chomche continues to make the most out of his reps. He’s already progressing well and showing why he’s got so much untapped potential at 18-years-old. He finished with 7 points on 2-3 shooting, which included one made three. He also had a monstrous block.
Gradey Dick had a strong showing in the Raptors first Summer League game, but he struggled in this one. Dick finished with just 4 points on 2-9 shooting from the field and 0-5 from three. Dick suffered a right sprained ankle in the first-half and did not return in the second-half.
The Raptors will look to make it 3-0 when they take on the Utah Jazz on July 17 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
