Report: 76ers' Joel Embiid plans to get MRI on injured thumb after Game 4

The Philadelphia 76ers are a Saturday win away from sweeping a first round series against the Toronto Raptors, but it's the health of star center Joel Embiid that looms even larger.

While Embiid reportedly plans to play through the pain of a thumb injury during Philadelphia's playoff run, he's still planning to get an MRI sometime after Game 4, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. There is fear in the 76ers organization that Embiid suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Embiid, 28, is a finalist for NBA MVP honors after winning the scoring title in the regular season with 30.6 points per game, along with 11.7 rebounds 4.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks. He's been a force in the playoffs, too, with an average of 27.7 points and 13.0 rebounds in the 76ers' three wins.

On Thursday, Embiid saved the day for Philadelphia with a last-second, game-winning three-pointer in overtime.

Game 4 is set to tip Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. If the 76ers advance, they will face the winner of a first round series between the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks.
