The Utah Jazz have made the playoffs the playoffs six seasons in a row. The team's core has been constructed of head coach Quin Snyder, three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert and smooth-shooting southpaw Joe Ingles for all six years, three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell for the last five, and the trio of reigning Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson, one-time All-Star Mike Conley and high-scoring forward Bojan Bogdanovic for the past three seasons.
Still, the Jazz have yet to make it out of the second round of the Western Conference playoffs while the talented group has been together. With Thursday's Game 6 first-round loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Utah has now been eliminated in the opening round in three of the last four campaigns.
Despite this, it was reported by Sam Amick of The Athletic on Friday morning that Snyder's job is safe and if he so chooses, he'll likely be welcomed back for the final guaranteed year on his contract in 2022-2023. The Athletic's TJ Jones also reported on the future of the Jazz on Friday, discussing the two biggest stars on the squad in Gobert and Mitchell.

"The Jazz, according to sources, are committed to building around Donovan Mitchell, which means taking a step back isn’t an option. Utah would like to keep climbing the mountain toward contention, and the Jazz feel like they still aren’t that far off, despite the disappointment of this season. ... What you are probably going to see is the Jazz entering the offseason with almost every idea on the table. Mitchell should be considered the player most likely to remain with the team through the offseason. Everything else should be considered a question mark," Jones wrote. "Gobert remains a pillar for the Utah organization. At the same time, there probably is more of a chance that he goes elsewhere than Mitchell. But, he is a tough case. He’s still one of the very best bigs in the league. He’s still one of the two best defenders in the NBA at absolute worst. Sources tell The Athletic that he is all in on the Jazz, doesn’t want to play anywhere else and would like to retire in a Jazz uniform. He’s had a terrific season. He’s very clearly still in the prime of his career. ... At the same time, Gobert will be 30 in June. His contract is one of the most expensive in the league and could become burdensome if he experiences a drop-off in play over the next few seasons. The Jazz could opt to sell high on Gobert when he is still at peak value. There are multiple teams interested in trading for him, should the Jazz decide to go that route, according to multiple league sources."
Gobert is coming off of a 2021-2022 season in which he made his third straight All-Star team and where he led the league in rebounds per game (career-high 14.7) and field goal percentage (career-high .713). During the six-game set against Dallas, the Frenchman averaged 12.0 points and 13.2 rebounds while shooting 63.6% from the field.
Mitchell made his third consecutive All-Star team this year as well and finished the regular season by averaging 25.9 points, a career-high 5.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds and a career-high 1.5 steals, while posting a .448/.355/.853 shooting line. "Spida" registered averages of 25.5 points, 5.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds across the six-game series against the Mavericks.
