Report: Cavs Will ‘Largely Stand Pat’ This Summer Despite Losing In Second Round

If you are expecting the Cleveland Cavaliers to make big changes this summer after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games, don’t hold your breath.

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Cavs will largely stand pat this summer.

“The Cavs, I think from my understanding from talking to people in and around that organization, I think they are largely gonna stand pat this summer,” Fischer said.

The Cavaliers had the best record in the East this year. Their head coach, Kenny Atkinson, won the Coach of the Year Award and Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley made the All-Star team.

It appeared Cleveland would compete for the title for the first time in the second post-LeBron James era. However, the Pacers easily defeated the Cavaliers in the second round, winning Games 1, 2, 4 and 5 in the best-of-seven series.

When Mobley won the 2024-25 Defensive Player of the Year Award, it triggered a clause in his contract that called for him to increase the first-year salary of his rookie-scale extension from 25 to 30% of the salary cap.

As a result, the Cavaliers are now projected to have $219 million in salary for the 2025-26 season and be over the second apron.

Some Cleveland fans want general manager Koby Altman to trade Garland and/or Jarrett Allen this summer. However, it appears both players will be back with the Cavaliers next season.
