Report: Chris Paul wasn't interested in trade to 76ers this past offseason

When the Oklahoma City Thunder made Chris Paul available in trade discussions this past offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers thought they had a real opportunity to land the All-Star guard.

Paul, however, reportedly wasn't interested in playing for the Sixers, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick:

Ironically, sources say Philadelphia — with Morey having taken over the Sixers' front office just weeks before Paul was sent to the Suns, and his former Clippers coach, Doc Rivers, part of their program too — made a spirited push to land Paul. The Sixers even believed there was some traction on a possible deal. The interest from Paul, however, was not mutual. With Paul targeting Phoenix as the best fit professionally and personally, and Presti in a much-improved negotiating position because of the way Paul had played, the Suns had won the CP sweepstakes.

It's unclear why Paul didn't want to play in Philadelphia. However, it probably has something to do with 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey. When he was general manager of the Houston Rockets, Morey traded Paul to the Thunder after telling him he wouldn't be moved.

Things have ultimately worked out for both the Suns and Sixers thus far. Paul has helped lead Phoenix to a 43-18 record, which is second in the Western Conference. With his help, the Suns are in the midst of their best season in a decade.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, is second in the Eastern Conference with a 40-21 record. Joel Embiid is playing at an MVP level, and Ben Simmons is a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.
