According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, Doug Christie is “well-positioned” to remain the head coach of the Sacramento Kings

The Kings fired Mike Brown after 31 games this season and named Christie the interim head coach. Sacramento went 27-24 under Christie, who played 15 years in the NBA.

The Kings and general manager Monte McNair mutually agreed to part ways on Thursday. Sacramento didn’t waste any time in finding a new GM, as the team is hiring Scott Perry.

“Perry’s last two stops make him uniquely positioned to potentially succeed in Sacramento, as the past two owners with whom he has worked — the Kings’ Ranadive and the Knicks’ James Dolan — are widely known to be among the most involved in the league,” Amick wrote. “Perry, who worked well alongside former Kings executive Vlade Divac during his time in Sacramento, remained on good terms with both despite dealing with difficult dynamics along the way.

“Before hiring Perry, team sources say the Kings also inquired about former Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth and Joe Dumars, the former Kings adviser and Hall of Famer who joined the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday as their president of basketball operations.”

The Kings made the postseason in 2023 for the first time since 2006. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round in seven thrilling games.

Many thought Sacramento had a bright future after taking Golden State to seven games. However, the Kings missed the playoffs in 2024 and 2025 and All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox is no longer on the team. He was traded to the San Antonio Spurs this season.

Sacramento’s roster is headlined by All-Stars DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis. The Kings acquired LaVine from the Chicago Bulls after trading Fox to the Spurs. LaVine and DeRozan were teammates in Chicago.

It was fun to see the Kings reach the playoffs in 2023. Their fans have been through a lot since 2006.

Let’s see if Perry can make Sacramento relevant again.
