Report: Hawks expected to dangle Clint Capela on trade market

This offseason is expected to be extremely busy for the Hawks, which was only escalated when the club won the lottery.

Armed with two All-Star point guards and plenty of other trade chips, including that No. 1 overall pick, Landry Fields is expected to make notable changes in Atlanta.

Trae Young and Dejounte Murray will obviously bring the biggest return in a potential trade, likely followed by the No. 1 overall pick, but there’s a slew of other potential pieces that will hit the trade block, including Clint Capela.

“Another center likely bound for the trade market … this offseason: Atlanta’s Clint Capela. The presence of Onyeka Okongwu and potential arrival of another big man through the draft, with Atlanta holding the No. 1 overall pick for the first time since 1975, is expected to make Capela available,” Marc Stein wrote.

The Hawks have dangled the former rebound champion on the trade market before but to no avail. Now, the veteran is headed into the final year of his two-year, $45.8 million contract and will certainly interest some contenders.

The Mavericks had serious talks at the deadline, but those talks stalled over the Hawks wanting too much in return. The Pelicans and Rockets also had reported interest.

I don’t think the Hawks are going to have trouble finding a suitor for Clint Capela. Though he lacks some on the offensive end, he’s one of the best rebounders in the game and a more than solid rim protector.

The Hawks have the capital to upgrade this roster. They’re being led by an inexperienced groups of executives in the front office, but this is the perfect opportunity for Landry Fields, Kyle Kover and company to prove they’re up for the job.
