The Detroit Pistons are "nearing an agreement" to trade Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks in exchange for point guard Dennis Smith Jr. and draft compensation, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The move comes as the Pistons enter what looks to be a rebuild as they sit last in the Eastern Conference at 5-18.
Rose is having a productive second season with the Pistons, averaging 14.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 42.9% from the field and 33.3% from deep.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has a strong connection with Rose, whom he coached in Chicago and Minnesota. Thibodeau told the Knicks front office to keep an eye on his situation in Detroit, and it appears they have done just that.
