Report: Knicks want to keep Derrick Rose, Quentin Grimes in potential trade talks

Tony Jones of The Athletic reported on Saturday that the New York Knicks want to hang onto both Derrick Rose and Quentin Grimes in trade talks. Jones further describes those two players as “priorities” for the Knicks.

If Rose and Grimes are indeed untouchable, it is probably for two different reasons. Rose will turn 34 in a couple of months but is a highly-esteemed veteran who is a favorite of head coach Tom Thibodeau (having played for Thibodeau in New York, Chicago, and Minnesota). For Grimes though, he is an upside player at 22 who flashed strong three-and-D potential during his rookie season last year.

At least one of those guys has been requested by an opposing team in the Knicks’ ongoing trade talks, which may partially explain why nothing has materialized yet. New York still has a wealth of assets to offer (such as RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, and others), but both Rose and Grimes appear to be firmly off the table.
