The Los Angeles Lakers are all in on Luka Doncic. They understand Doncic is the best player on the team. He is the future.
This may come off as a slight against LeBron James. Despite being 40, he is still playing at an elite level. Yet, the Lakers don’t appear to be valuing him.
According to NBA insider Dan Woike, the Lakers are focusing solely on developing a solid team, including adding a star player, next to Doncic.
“Much of the tension appears to stem from the Lakers’ desire to keep their salary-cap sheet as clear as possible starting next summer. This will allow them to find Luka Doncic’s future partner.
“Either in free agency or via trade, when they’ll have access to use first-round picks in 2026, 2031, and 2033 for a single trade.”
This may mean LeBron will be off the Lakers’ roster before the season starts. Nothing is set in stone, but a split between LeBron and the Lakers looks to be on its way.
