According to NBA insider Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints, the Los Angeles Lakers have spoken to the Miami Heat about an Andrew Wiggins trade.

The Heat acquired Wiggins from the Golden State Warriors in the blockbuster Jimmy Butler deal.

Wiggins was the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him but traded the swingman to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Kevin Love trade.

The 30-year-old Wiggins has played for the Timberwolves, Warriors and Heat. He has career averages of 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Wiggins put up 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game with the Warriors and Heat this season while shooting 44.8% from the field, 37.4% from beyond the arc and 76.3% from the free-throw line.

Los Angeles lost to Minnesota in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games despite having Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Meanwhile, Miami was swept by Cleveland in the first round.

Wiggins will make $28,223,215 next season. He has a player option worth $30,169,644 for the 2026-27 season.

A Kansas product, Wiggins won the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year Award with the Timberwolves and the 2022 championship with the Warriors. He made his lone All-Star team in 2022 with Golden State.

The Buss family has entered an agreement to sell majority ownership of the Lakers to Mark Walter for $10 billion. Walter now owns the Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Walter’s deep pockets and success with the Dodgers could make the Lakers more appealing for future free agents.
