Report: Lakers To Pursue Malcolm Brogdon As Clippers, Warriors Join The Hunt

Malcolm Brogdon, who spent 2024-25 languishing on the basement Washington Wizards, could be on the move. The former 6th Man of the Year award winner will be one of the most heavily coveted trade targets in the upcoming days. Brogdon was traded by the Blazers in exchange for Israeli forward Deni Avdija. The 32-year-old had a good individual season in DC to help bolster his trade value for the Wizards.

‘Microwave bench scorer’ is one of the positions with the deepest talent pool in the NBA today. A lot of speedy guards with shooting ability are finding their spots in the league based on their ability to space. A team with a viable sixth man who can score, playmake and defend while being a plus shooter is invaluable. This is what the OKC Thunder had in Alex Caruso, and what Boston have in Payton Pritchard.

Malcolm Brogdon is one of the players who fit this description to the tee. He’s a better playmaker than both Caruso and Pritchard and a better overall scorer as well. He is a capable defender, better at it than Pritchard, and often able to switch on to bigger wings without being exploited. The UVA product had a 50-40-90 season while with the Milwaukee Bucks and can still be a lethal two-way option as a starter.

According to Jake Fischer, the 9-year veteran will have interest from a number of playoff teams out west. This list includes the Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Warriors and Timberwolves. His former team Milwaukee are also said to be in the running for his services after Damian Lillard was waived by GM Jon Horst.

All of these scenarios, furthermore, are sure to have an impact on Brogdon. League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon’s exit from Washington and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old. That list includes the Clippers, Suns and Lakers as well as the Warriors, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Kings and Bucks.
