Report: Lakers to work around the margins during trade deadline

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a disastrous 2022-23 NBA season up to this point.

Despite hopes of a rebound from last year’s embarrassing run, it has largely been more of the same this time around as well.

For months there was speculation that L.A. would make a big move ahead of the 2022-23 NBA Trade Deadline. Then Anthony Davis got hurt, again. That threw everything into a state of flux.

This week, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski offered some clarity on the Lakers’ plan heading into Feb. 9.

Spoiler alert: it is largely what many have come to expect it to be.

The team will work around the margins, but not do anything too dramatic.

“I don’t think there’s any big, big deals for the Lakers out there,” he said.

“But I do think they’re going to be active around the edges to try to improve this team as they try to get into the postseason with LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ return.”

Among the names mentioned by Wojnarowski in regards to L.A. was Bojan Bogdanovic of the Detroit Pistons.

The 33-year-old has been linked to the Lakers in various capacities a lot over the past few months, but there are still three other NBA teams very interested in acquiring him.

It’s hard to see how Los Angeles has the assets to compete, unless they part with one of their remaining first rounders in this decade – which the front office has pledged not to.

Earlier this week, an NBA front office executive revealed the Laker most likely to be dealt ahead of the trade deadline. It definitely fit theme of not-big moves.

For better or worse, this team isn’t changing any time soon.
