Report: NBA teams left out of Orlando considering joint workouts

The NBA is set to resume at Walt Disney World on July 31, but with only 22 teams. The Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Detroit Pistons have been left out of the season resumption in Orlando, but now they're considering multiple offseason options.

Those teams now are facing a nine-month hiatus between games, and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports they're pushing for joint practices to lead up to Summer League games in August.

Wojnarowski reports that a few options have been presented to the league, including a combination of voluntary and mandatory workouts for two weeks in July, regional minicamps in August that include joint practices and televised games, organized team activities for mid-September and the opportunity for training camps to begin earlier for the teams left out of the Orlando plan.

The remainder of the 2019-20 campaign is set to run through October with the 2020-21 season beginning in December. The eight teams left out of the Orlando tournament would be at a disadvantage if they were to go a long period of time with no games played.

While the league is going to have to make a decision on the proposal from those eight teams, it also has plenty of negotiations to consider throughout the coming months including financial and competitive issues due to the coronavirus pandemic. It seems like a reasonable request, but you never know what could happen regarding the virus in the coming months, so the league will need to make a careful decision on the matter.
