Report: NBA warns players, coaches against having Super Bowl parties

In response to medical experts cautioning the general public about gatherings for the Super Bowl, the NBA is warning players against having small parties for the big game.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, NBA players and personnel will be allowed to host a maximum of four family members or close friends at a hotel if they're on the road, but those guests will need to undergo COVID-19 testing beforehand. If players and personnel are home, they can watch the game only with those they live with.

The NBA informed its 30 teams that players, coaches and staff are not permitted to gather outside of their home for Super Bowl Sunday. At home, individuals are able to watch with household. On road, may host up to four family/close friends in hotel, with advance testing.

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci warned against Super Bowl parties because they could cause the spread of COVID-19.

Other leagues, like the NHL, will likely also caution against having gatherings for the Super Bowl.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Sunday. Tom Brady will be going for his seventh title, while the Chiefs will be looking to win their second consecutive championship.
