According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Indiana Pacers are “hoping” to re-sign Myles Turner without sacrificing their depth.
Turner, who has spent his entire career with the Pacers, becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
“Rival teams remain skeptical at this point, having for generations seen the Pacers make decisions to avoid the tax penalty, as they monitor the Turner situation. But internally the Pacers are hoping to be able to keep Turner without sacrificing their outstanding depth,” Windhorst wrote.
Turner appeared in 72 games for the Pacers during the regular season. He averaged 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 2.0 blocks while shooting 48.1% from the field, 39.6% from beyond the arc and 77.3% from the free-throw line.
A two-time blocks champion, Turner has career averages of 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 2.2 blocks.
The Pacers are in the conference finals for the second consecutive year. They are up 2-0 on the New York Knicks.
Indiana beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round and took out the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round.
