Report: Pelicans, Jazz planning to kneel around Black Lives Matter sign during anthem

The New Orleans Pelicans and Utah Jazz are planning to do something special on opening night. 

According to ESPN's Malika Andrews, both teams are discussing a plan to kneel around the Black Lives Matter sign on the court in Orlando during the national anthem. 

The game is the first of the NBA's restart at Walt Disney World, which makes the demonstration even that much more important.

Instead of protesting separately, the teams wanted to promote a united front on the topic, sources told Andrews. Coaches are expected to join the players in protest. 

In 1981, the NBA initiated a policy that all "players, coaches and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line." However, league officials aren't expected to enforce that rule, Andrews adds. 

Since arriving in Orlando, many players have used their platform to speak out against racism and police brutality. LeBron James is consistently advocating for justice for Breonna Taylor, and other players have shown their support in various ways. 

The Pelicans and Jazz are set to get underway at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
