According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Toronto Raptors are a potential trade suitor for Kevin Durant.
The Phoenix Suns will trade Durant this offseason. They missed the playoffs and play-in tournament this year.
“Toronto has likewise been painted by numerous NBA figures as a potential trade suitor for Durant … particularly if Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn’t reach the open market,” Fischer wrote.
“The Raptors, furthermore, would figure to have a more realistic shot at assembling a competitive trade offer for Durant compared to the mammoth offers that the Bucks would inevitably seek for Antetokounmpo’s services. The Greek Freak also happens to be six years younger than Durant, is still playing at an MVP level and, most crucially, has two more guaranteed years left on his contract.
“When it comes to Durant, though, be advised that Toronto also pursued him during the 2022 offseason when he first sought a trade away from Brooklyn, according to league sources.”
Durant turns 37 in September. He has one year left on his contract. The future Hall of Famer averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He’s a two-time Finals MVP and a two-time champion.
The Suns acquired Durant from the Nets in 2023. Phoenix lost to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2023 playoffs in six games and was swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.
Thus far, Durant has been linked to the Raptors, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs in trade rumors.
The Raptors haven’t made the playoffs since 2022. Their best player right now is Scottie Barnes.
Toronto famously traded for Kawhi Leonard in 2018 and won the 2019 title against the Warriors.
