Report: Re-Signing Ty Jerome Is Offseason ‘Priority’ For Cavaliers

According to NBA reporter Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, re-signing Ty Jerome is an offseason “priority” for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Jerome becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

“With Caris LeVert out of the mix, re-signing Jerome will become the priority,” Fedor wrote. “He deserves that. He’s earned it. The Cavs like him. They have for years. They worked him out and considered drafting him in 2019 — until he went off the board two picks before they were on the clock. They attempted to pry him away from the Warriors a year before he eventually signed. President of basketball operations Koby Altman’s affinity for Jerome goes back to when Altman was a full-time assistant at Columbia University.

“There will be plenty of motivation — on both sides — to get a deal done. As long as the Cavs can be competitive financially — and they can even with a bloated salary cap situation — Jerome sticking around seems to be a likely outcome.”

Jerome is having a terrific season for the Cavaliers, who have the top record in the NBA at 50-10. The guard is averaging 12.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 51.6% from the field, 44.9% from beyond the arc and 88.9% from the free-throw line.

A Virginia product, Jerome is making $2,560,975 this season. He signed a two-year, $4.6 million deal with the Cavaliers in July 2023.

Jerome turns 28 this summer. He has career averages of 8.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists with the Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors and Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers will be without Evan Mobley when they take on the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday (3/4).

Cleveland is resting Mobley.

The 23-year-old Mobley is averaging 18.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.6 blocks this season while shooting 56.7% from the field, 36.7% from beyond the arc and 75.4% from the free-throw line.

The good news is that Donovan Mitchell will play after sitting out against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday (3/2).
