Report: Skit with Conor McGregor sent Heat mascot to hospital

There was a bizarre moment during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night when MMA fighter Conor McGregor was brought out to promote a pain relief spray that had him punch Burnie, the Heat mascot.

After McGregor delivered his first punch as part of the skit he delivered another one to Burnie on the ground and then sprayed him with his pain relief spray as Burnie was dragged away.

The only problem is that McGregor's initial punch actually injured the person inside of the Burnie costume, and according to The Athletic's Sam Amick resulted in them being taken to the hospital

The good news is the person inside the costume was given pain medication (not McGregor's pain relief spray, for the record) and sent home because he was doing okay.

Here is a look at the skit.

Adding to the awkwardness of all of this is the fact Heat fans were not amused with it as it was happening.

McGregor and the entire skit were loudly booed, and given the circumstances at that moment it should probably not be a surprise. Not only were the Heat down in the series, but they were also losing by 10 points in the game and it was pretty clear that the series was starting to slip away at that point.

Not exactly the best time to bring out somebody to sell some snake oil. The fans made that point very well known.

The Heat went on to lose the game and are now facing a 3-1 series deficit as it shifts back to Denver for Game 5. The Heat need to win each of the remaining three games to win the series.
