Report: Spurs trading Dejounte Murray to Hawks for Danilo Gallinari, draft picks

The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly trading All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, in return for Murray, the Spurs will receive a package including veteran Danilo Gallinari and three first-round picks.

The Hawks were rumored to be interested in trading for Murray, potentially in a deal that included forward John Collins. However, earlier this week, sources claimed the Hawks were "on the verge" of acquiring Murray in a deal without including Collins.

Murray, 25, received his first All-Star nod last season, averaging career highs in points (21.1), assists (9.2), rebounds (8.3) and steals (2.0).

He has two years remaining on a four-year, $64 million contract. Murray will make a $16.5 million base salary in 2022-23 and $17.7 million in 2023-24.

The addition of Murray in Atlanta creates a dynamic backcourt with star Trae Young, who is reportedly "ecstatic" about the move.

After reaching the Eastern Conference finals in 2020-21, the Hawks finished last season 43-39, falling in the opening round of the playoffs to the Miami Heat in five games.
