According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Phoenix Suns are doing background work on Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green, Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins and Los Angeles Clippers guard Norman Powell.
The Suns are expected to trade Kevin Durant before the 2025 NBA Draft. Durant wants Phoenix to send him to the Rockets, Heat or San Antonio Spurs, but the Suns are going to do what is best for them.
“With guards Devin Booker and Bradley Beal already on the roster, having failed to trade Beal as the Suns attempted to before the trade deadline, Phoenix has done background on Green to gauge his value around the league in case Green is acquired, and it’s worthwhile to flip him again via trade, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.
“The Suns have done background work on Heat forward Andrew Wiggins, league sources told HoopsHype. Wiggins is owed $28.22 million this upcoming season and would likely be a part of any Heat trade package for Durant.
“The Suns have done background work on Clippers guard Norman Powell and gauged his value across the league in case Phoenix and Los Angeles ever agreed on a Durant trade, league sources told HoopsHype.”
Durant, who turns 37 in September, has one year left on his contract. He’s open to signing an extension with the Rockets, Heat and Spurs.
The Rockets lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of this year’s playoffs in seven games, the Heat were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round and the Spurs missed the postseason for the sixth straight year.
Durant appeared in 62 games for the Suns this season. The 15-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from deep and 83.9% from the foul line.
One of the greatest players in NBA history, Durant won the 2014 MVP Award with the Oklahoma City Thunder and back-to-back championships with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
Durant played college basketball at Texas. There are no state income taxes in Texas or Miami.
