Four of the top NBA restricted free agents remain stuck in contract limbo, and there is no expectation for movement anytime soon.
During a Bleacher Report live stream on Thursday, insider Jake Fischer said Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, Bulls guard Josh Giddey, 76ers guard Quentin Grimes and Nets guard Cam Thomas are all in ongoing standoffs with their teams.
“We are still in a holding pattern with all these restricted free agents,” Fischer said. “We are expecting all those situations to linger deeper into August and get into September as well. Don’t expect a resolution anytime soon.”
In Kuminga’s case, Fischer reported the Warriors have shown no interest in sign-and-trade packages offered by the Kings and Suns. Golden State does not want to lose him for nothing but also has no plans to meet his camp’s current contract request.
Fischer said Kuminga’s side would be open to either a two-plus-one deal with a player option in year three, or a two-year, $45 million deal with a player option in year two. The Warriors, however, have held firm on keeping a team option for the second year, creating the current impasse.
