Rick Fox talks about how rumor he died affected his family, friends
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Rick Fox became a part of the story on Sunday when rumors circulated on social media saying that he was also in the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant. The rumor was never officially sourced by a news organization or reporter, and it seemed to have originated with someone spreading bad information on Twitter. Nonetheless, amid the confusion and uncertainty over the details of the crash, some circulated information saying Fox had also died.

During TNT’s special on Kobe Bryant Tuesday, Fox spoke about what it was like for his him, his friends, and his family to endure the pain of the false rumor.

When you hear him talk about it, you understand the momentary pain those close to him experienced amid the rumors.

Media outlets have taken a lot of heat — incorrectly in some cases — for the reporting over the Kobe Bryant situation. But this story was not media-driven and should serve as a reminder to everyone to only trust news from reputable sources, and not to spread information from unverified sources.
