The LA Lakers might not be done adding players to the roster, but have been warned away from one high profile star.
There are still a number of intriguing names left on the free agent market, experienced stars who can bring a lot to their future teams.
One of these is veteran star Chris Paul, who spent last season with the San Antonio Spurs, and feels he still has more to offer.
Paul has hinted this could be final year in the NBA, prompting speculation over where his next team might be.
Chris Paul has hinted he would prefer to live on the West coast for family reasons, and this has seen both Los Angeles teams speculated on as possible destinations.
NBA expert Kevin O’Connor has warned the LA Lakers against a move, citing a potential disastrous fit from a team and personnel perspective.
He told Yahoo: “Talk about bad fits? Luka and Chris Paul. How soon before they are ripping each other’s heads off?”
This view was backed by fellow analyst Tom Haberstroh, who gave the view that LeBron James would be supportive of the deal, but this has less sway than it used to.
He said: “You could see him and LeBron in LA, banana boat, finally we get to play together, but no.
“This is Bill Duffy and Luka Doncic’s team going forward, and I do not think that Chris Paul, as much of a hands-on manager that you have in NBA history, next to Luka Doncic, I don’t think that’s a good fit.”
Chris Paul famously came close to a move to the LA Lakers in 2011, with the deal rejected by the NBA Commissioner.
Paul signed with the LA Clippers, where he spent six seasons, before spells with the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Golden State Warriors, before the Spurs.
Time is running out for the 2005 draft pick, who is a 12 times All-Star, but has never won the NBA title.
