Rockets Among Many Potential Suitors For Cam Johnson
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

This offseason, Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson will enter restricted NBA free agency. As one of the key pieces from the Kevin Durant trade, Brooklyn likely wants to keep him long-term. However, it appears an array of teams will be interested in acquiring him come free agency.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype recently broke down some of the teams that are reportedly interested in Johnson. Among the teams mentioned is the Houston Rockets. He is expected to receive a contract “in the neighborhood” of four-years, $90 million.

“Several teams are expected to have interest in Johnson as a restricted free agent, including the Houston Rockets, league sources told HoopsHype.”

In today’s game, 3-and-D wings are extremely valuable. On top of that, Johnson is getting ready to enter the prime of his career. This season, he posted a career-high points (15.5) while shooting 40.4% from beyond the arc on six attempts per game.

After being one of the worst teams in the league for the past few years, the Houston Rockets appear ready to speed up their rebuild. Along with bringing in a new head coach in Ime Udoka, they’ve been linked to big-name players like James Harden.

If the Rockets land the first overall pick in the draft and select Victor Wembanyama, they’ll have an exciting young core that might be ready to compete. Bringing in a connecting player like Johnson might get them one step closer to ending their playoff drought.

Johnson is not a flashy player in any sense but can be a good lift to whatever team he is on. During his time with the Phoenix Suns, he was among the best sixth men in the league. Houston needs experience around their young players, and Johnson can provide that while also being a great fit with them on the floor.
