The Houston Rockets finally reached a point of no return this week with James Harden and yielded to his demands by dealing the disgruntled superstar to the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster trade.

While Harden’s time with the Rockets could not have come to a more disappointing, anticlimactic and arguably ugly end, the organization nevertheless exhibited class by bidding the one-time MVP a fond farewell.

The Rockets took to social media Thursday to say their goodbyes to Harden by issuing a farewell tweet as well as sharing a statement from owner Tilman Fertitta. Houston also announced details of the trade at the same time.

One cannot help but wonder if the sentiments expressed by Fertitta in his statement — not to mention the “thank you” offered up in the social media dispatch — are indeed genuine. After all, Harden is skipping town leaving little goodwill in his wake given his questionable conduct of late.

The notion that the Rockets are arguably insincere in their sentiments is further reinforced by how the Rockets official Twitter account initially reacted Wednesday when news of the trade first broke. The tweet was cryptic at best and passive-aggressive at worst.

Either way, some unfinished business remains for Harden in Houston as he makes his way out of town, and it has nothing to do with the one-time MVP failing to lead the Rockets to an NBA title. The Rockets’ classy response perhaps will help that endeavor along a tad.
