The Houston Rockets dominated the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, 128–97, with three players scoring 20-plus points. Reed Sheppard led the way with 28 points, while Kevin Durant added 21.
Big man Alperen Sengun recorded a triple-double, finishing with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. He also had two steals and three blocks.
Sheppard’s 28 points are tied for his second-best scoring game this season. It is a welcome sight for Rockets fans after the sophomore guard went through a rough stretch in late January and early this month.
However, his insertion into the starting lineup came at the expense of Amen Thompson.
Coach Ime Udoka announced pregame that Thompson is dealing with quad tendinitis. He was unavailable for the game against the Kings, and Udoka is hopeful for good news.
“Some tendinitis, quad tendinitis has been bothering him off and on the last few weeks.
Nothing specific now. . . got sore last game, felt a little pain. We got him in the fourth quarter," Udoka said (via Lachard Binkley of Sports Illustrated).
"Hopefully, it's just a one-game thing."
Thompson has been relatively healthy this season. The only game he had missed before this injury was the win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Feb. 7 due to illness.
Udoka will need all the firepower at his disposal as the Rockets try to secure strong seeding in a stacked Western Conference. The latest win put them at 36–21, good for the No. 3 spot, half a game ahead of the Denver Nuggets. The Los Angeles Lakers, currently sixth in the conference, hold a 34–23 record.
The Rockets will visit the Orlando Magic on the second night of a back-to-back before playing two more road games — against the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards.
