Kevin Durant could not lead the Houston Rockets past the Los Angeles Lakers for a second time in a row. On Wednesday, the Rockets were handed another tough loss by the Lakers, 124-116. Once again, Durant had another 18-point outing, including two separate quarters where he was held to just two points apiece.

Against the Lakers, KD struggled in the first half and finished with just two points, which he scored in the first quarter. In the second quarter, he only had one attempt and did not score a point. He woke up in the third quarter, where he scored 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting.

In the fourth period, the two-time NBA champion could not replicate what he did in the third quarter. Durant finished with just three points and attempted just two shots.

Kevin Durant Brushed Off His Limited Shot Attempts in the Fourth Quarter

His final-period field goal attempts were brought up to Durant at his post-game press conference. However, he brushed it off and said that basketball is a team sport. He added that since he put in some effort during the previous quarter, it shouldn't matter.

“Well, it’s a team game,” Durant said. “Me getting two shots shouldn’t matter. We got six guys with double-figure shot attempts, and guys were pretty efficient tonight, too… I don’t think that’s a talking point.

“I just think the overall game on the defensive side of the ball in the fourth quarter, they made shots. We didn’t. I don’t think my two shot attempts lost us this game in the fourth.”

The Rockets lost the season series against the Lakers, 1-2. On Monday, KD and his team suffered a 100-92 loss, and they didn't make any adjustments. LA boldly risked throwing many defenders on the two-time Finals MVP in the absence of sufficient shooting surrounding Durant.

After the defeat, the Rockets star took ownership of the loss and told reporters that he should've produced more points despite the Lakers' defense.

“I just felt like I lost the game for us tonight,” Durant said. “It’s that simple. Of course, we probably could make more 3s, but it’s on me. I mean, to be honest, I’m the offense and the opposing team is going to use all their resources and not let me get comfortable.”

The Rockets are currently fifth in the Western Conference after suffering their 27th loss of the season on Wednesday. The team will continue its five-game homestand on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks. Although the Hawks aren't title favorites, they have been on a roll recently, winning 11 straight games.
