Rockets Owner Tilman Fertitta Accidentally Reveals Plans For New Practice Facility
USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets have officially moved on to the next phase of their rebuilding project.

Wednesday afternoon, the Rockets introduced Ime Udoka as their new head coach. And alongside owner Tilman Fertitta and general manager Rafael Stone, the three parties revealed plans for the Rockets' promising future.

Fertitta, who described the previous three years as painful, may have gotten too excited when he accidentally revealed plans for the Rockets' new practice facility.

"We’re building a 70-million-dollar practice facility right now," Fertitta said. "We were hoping it would be ready for next season, but just with permitting and everything — we’ll lay it all out for you guys soon.

"It’s really exciting," Fertitta said. "It’s going to be great. I think it’ll be a great tool to recruit players."

Fertitta admitted he screwed up. He was hoping to make a formal announcement. But once the news about the new facility came out, Fertitta revealed more details. The new training facility will be in the Galleria area. And Fertitta plans to have construction finished before the 2024-25 campaign.

A new practice facility has been one of Fertitta's top desires since he took ownership in October 2017. Since the opening of the Toyota Center in 2003, the Rockets have trained on a single practice court inside the building.
