The Houston Rockets had one of their better season in recent years as they won 52-games during the regular season. Point guard Fred VanVleet was a major contributor to the success of the team. VanVleet averaged 14.1 ppg along 5.6 assist and 3.7 rebounds.

According to The Houston Rockets and guard Fred VanVleet are pushing back Friday’s deadline date to June 29 on his $44.9 million team option for 2025-26 season, sources tell ESPN. This gives both sides additional time to navigate exercising the option versus completing a longer-term deal.

The Rockets will have a tough decision to make regarding VanVleet future with the team. He has a team option after signing a three-year contract worth $128.5 million. VanVleet was a critical part of the team success because he also provided a veteran presence on a young team.

At 31, VanVleet brings years of NBA experience, including playoff appearances and championship runs making him one of the most respected voices in the locker room. His potential return signals the team’s commitment to blending seasoned leadership with emerging talent, offering mentorship to younger players while still delivering impactful minutes on the floor.

Even as he’s aged, VanVleet has maintained a reputation for control, vision, and clutch decision-making. He may not light up the scoreboard every night, but his ability to manage tempo, facilitate offense, and provide on-court coaching is invaluable especially during playoff games and high-stakes moments.
