The Houston Rockets are signing forward Trey Mourning, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic. Mourning is the son of former Georgetown star and Hall of Fame center Alonzo Mourning.

Terms of the deal were unknown. However, the likely case is Mourning will split time with Houston’s affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G-League.

Like his father, Trey Mourning played at Georgetown in college. The 6-9 forward averaged 6.3 points and 3.8 rebounds as a senior in 2018-19 with the Hoyas after missing the previous season with hip surgery.

He went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft. Last season, he played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the G-League affiliate of the Miami Heat. In 36 games, he averaged 5.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 12.6 minutes per game for the Skyforce. He shot 54.9% from the field, 30.8% from three, according to Basketball-Reference.

Mourning will be the second player in the Rockets organization to be a son of a former NBA player. KJ Martin, a second-round draft pick this year, is the son of former No. 1 overall pick Kenyon Martin.
