The Rockets plan to sign forward Tyler Smith to a two-way deal and will waive guard Kevon Harris to make room, per Jake Fischer of The Stein Line/Bleacher Report.
Smith is still only 21 and was the 33rd pick in the 2024 draft. He barely saw the floor as a Bucks rookie, logging only 122 minutes across 23 games. Most of his work came in the G League, where he averaged 10.7 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Wisconsin Herd.
Once Milwaukee hit its roster crunch, Smith was waived in October and entered the G League draft. Osceola took him second overall before trading him to the Capital City Go-Go. Through eight games with Washington’s affiliate this fall, he has averaged 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds on .378 shooting.
The Rockets like his tools enough to give him a look. At 6-foot-9 with shooting touch, Smith fits Houston’s developmental style and will likely spend most of his time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He can be active for up to 38 NBA games.
Harris, 28, had not appeared for the Rockets this season. He owns 34 career NBA games from his time on two-way deals with the Magic.
