The Houston Rockets just won't stop making trades this offseason.
Just two weeks ago, the Rockets won the Kevin Durant sweepstakes by working out a blockbuster deal with the Phoenix Suns. They parted ways with Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft as well as five second-round picks just to acquire the former MVP.
Now that Durant has joined a frontcourt that features Tari Eason, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith and Dorian Finney-Smith, the Rockets have decided to clear out some of their depth.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Rockets are trading away former Villanova star Cam Whitmore.
"The Houston Rockets are trading Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards for two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. The deal gives Whitmore a tremendous opportunity for an increased role as he turns 21 on Tuesday and returns to the DMV area," Charania said.
Whitmore averaged 9.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game this past season for the Rockets. In theory, he should be able to average a career-high in points next season.
If you're a fan of the Wizards, this deal should excite you. Whitmore is the perfect player for a rebuilding team. Not only is he incredibly young (20 years old), he has untapped potential.
As for the Rockets, it's possible this move is the precursor to an even bigger trade.
