Dylan Harper is regarded as one of the top two players in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft. With the San Antonio Spurs holding the No.2 pick, many people expect they will draft the promising guard. Yet, there have been plenty of Dylan Harper trade rumors. With every star rumored in trades linked to San Antonio, be it Kevin Durant, Jaylen Brown, or Giannis Antetokounmpo, Dylan’s name and the second pick are put on the table.
Ron Harper is a former NBA champion and knows how the business side of the NBA works. He recently commented on Twitter, hoping to clarify things about his son. Instead, he sparked more Dylan Harper trade rumors.
With some tweets saying that Dylan has worked out for other teams, Ron had to respond and said this on X.
Stop lying please he has not workout out for no teams they came to see him workout . Your facts are wrong…. Clown

While that might be true, it adds another layer to the trade rumors. With Dylan projected as a top two, or a top three pick at worst, how many other teams want to see him work out? And why would they be interested in his workouts if they do not have a top-three pick to grab him?
When the regular season finished, the San Antonio Spurs knew they had to improve their roster. Victor Wembanyama will enter his third year in the league, and he is already one of the best players in the league. Surrounding him with more talent should help the team make the playoffs. Wembanyama already believes he can compete for a championship, but the roster around him needs improvement.
After the draft lottery, everything changed for the Spurs. They already had plenty of future draft capital to make a trade. But having the No.2 pick in a great draft adds even more assets. The irony is that the team’s biggest need is a wing, not a guard. While the Spurs have said before they want to keep the pick, anything can happen in the NBA.
Wording matters in life. A single word can change everything. For example, Harper working out for other teams would mean he thinks the Spurs might not select him. But when you say teams are coming to see him work out, that means he is a desirable player. It gives the Spurs another huge asset to use. They can trade down if they like another player. Or completely trade out of the draft for a big name.
For example, the Brooklyn Nets, a team desperate for some young star potential to build around, might be interested in trading down. They hold the No.8 pick and have a solid player in Cam Johnson they can include.
The Utah Jazz is another loser of the draft lottery. They finished with the worst record but dropped out of the top four. Picking at five gives them smaller chances for a blue-chip player. They might elect to trade some of their players to trade up, grab Harper, and hope for better luck in the 2026 NBA Draft. It is looking like there will be more cornerstone players in the 2026 draft.
The Celtics are an interesting team to look at. With Jayson Tatum out with an ACL injury, and a huge tax bill incoming, they might look to shed salary, have a gap year, and retool around Tatum in two years.
