The Pelicans’ internal trade hierarchy appears to be shifting.
According to Marc Stein of the Stein Line, New Orleans now views rookies Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears as the most untouchable players on the roster. That label previously belonged to Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones, though league sources suggest the Pelicans are at least willing to listen on those veterans now.
That said, “listening” may be doing a lot of work here.
Stein reports the asking price for Murphy and Jones remains extremely high, to the point that rival teams believe New Orleans is effectively discouraging trade talks by setting the bar well above market value.
In other words, calls may be answered, but meaningful negotiations are unlikely unless an overwhelming offer appears.
The Pelicans remain focused on building around their young core, with Queen and Fears increasingly viewed as foundational pieces rather than future trade assets.
