Over the last two seasons, the Minnesota Timberwolves have entered three playoff series as the underdog. Minnesota defied the odds in all three series and won, eliminating the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets last postseason.

This postseason, the team once again entered its first-round series against LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and the Los Angeles Lakers as the betting underdog. After a dominating 4-1 series win for the Timberwolves, it has become clear that this team thrives when doubted.

While speaking to the media on Saturday as the team awaits their second-round matchup, Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert spoke on how he believes the team needs to keep that underdog mentality intact.

"We are (a) very resilient group and we don't shy away from adversity, but I think sometimes we have tendencies to get a little too comfortable when people are praising us," Gobert said. "We've got to keep that underdog mentality, we gotta remember that no one believed in us when the season started, and we got to keep it that way."

Despite the star power of James and Doncic, Minnesota was able to overwhelm Los Angeles with their height, highlighted by the four-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Gobert helped cap the series off in Game 5 with a dominating 27-point, 24-rebound (nine offensive) performance, as the Timberwolves came out on top 103-96. This marked a playoff career high in both points and rebounds for the 32-year-old.

The team has been aware of its underdog presence and used that as motivation during the first round.

Gobert and the Timberwolves continue to wait on their second-round matchup as the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets battle it out in Game 7.

While the team has no way yet to prepare for one specific team, they are doing all that they can to be ready.

"Getting ready mentally, physically, tactically to use this time to work on the things that we need to work on and that those two teams might do to us," Gobert said.

Minnesota looks to make a second straight Western Conference Finals appearance for the first time in Franchise history.
