Rudy Gobert takes revenge on Steph Curry, Warriors

Rudy Gobert was on the wrong end of a Steph Curry flurry during the 2024 Olympics. Friday, the "Stifle Tower" ruined Curry's return and the Warriors' comeback with rebounds, putbacks and dunks down the stretch as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Golden State Warriors, 127-120.

The only thing missing was a chance for Gobert to take revenge on longtime nemesis Draymond Green, who was out awaiting the birth of his new child. He and the Wolves will settle for winning their fifth straight game against Golden State — and breaking a four-game losing streak to Curry.

Rudy Gobert was too much for the undersized Warriors

Gobert finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and a block against the Warriors, who played young big men Quinten Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis against Gobert. While they matched Gobert in the aggregate, combining for 24 points and 13 rebounds, Gobert shot 11-for-13 and the Warriors bigs went 8-for-19.

But the fourth quarter showed Gobert's big effect on the game. With Gobert on the court and Curry (39 points) sitting, the Wolves took the the lead with a 13-0 run, which they ran to 17-0 and a 12-point lead after Curry missed two shots. Curry hit two shots and assisted on another before the game turned into an improbable Curry-Gobert scoring duel in the final minutes.

After Curry made his sixth three-pointer to give the Warriors a lead with two minutes left, Gobert answered by dunking on Post while former Warrior Donte DiVincenzo hit two threes in the last two minutes.

Gobert finished the quarter with 12 points and six boards, along with an assist and a steal. Curry had 14 points, one rebound and one assist. Move over Anthony Edwards (out with a foot injury). The Wolves have a new 7-foot-1 closer.

Rudy Gobert has history with Steph Curry, Warriors

The Timberwolves beat the Warriors in the second round of the playoffs last year, though Curry left with an injury in Golden State's Game 1 win and didn't return, as Minnesota won four straight to beat them. Curry and the Warriors won the last three regular-season games last season, after he and Team USA beat Gobert's French team in the gold medal game in the Olympics — though Gobert wasn't on the court during Curry's end-of-game flurry.

But Gobert's main feud has been with Green, who drew a five-game suspension two seasons ago for putting Gobert in a chokehold seconds into a Warriors-Wolves game.

One game after his own ejection and with no Green or Al Horford to slow him down, Gobert got his team a big win and avenged the honor of his home country by saying "night, night" to the Warriors.
