Jonathan Kuminga‘s representation presented a three-year, $82 million deal to the Golden State Warriors, according to NBA insider Anthony Slater of ESPN.
The Warriors resisted, meaning nothing has changed between Golden State and Kuminga. The forward remains a restricted free agent.
“Kuminga set out this summer in search of a contract that would signify a commitment to him as a future building block for the Warriors or elsewhere, sources said,” Slater wrote. “His representation presented a three-year, $82 million deal, which the Warriors resisted. As of this past weekend, there had been no movement toward a compromise.”
All signs point toward Kuminga starting next season on the Warriors since there is no team with cap space to sign the swingman to an offer sheet.
Kuminga, who doesn’t have a good relationship with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Golden State last season in 47 games. The 22-year-old wing shot 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 66.8% from the free-throw line.
Kuminga was the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He enters next season with career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists with Golden State.
The Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games after beating the Houston Rockets in the first round in seven games.
It looks like Kuminga will play next season with the Warriors on a one-year qualifying offer and then hit unrestricted free agency next offseason. As an unrestricted free agent, Kuminga can leave Golden State and pick his next team.
The Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns have presented sign-and-trade offers to the Warriors for Kuminga, but Golden State wasn’t interested. Kuminga has until October 1 to sign his $7.9 million qualifying offer for next season.
