The Sacramento Kings may not be done reshaping their backcourt. Despite recently acquiring Dennis Schroder from the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade, the Kings still have interest in signing NBA veteran guard Russell Westbrook, per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
“The word from NBA Summer League regarding the Sacramento Kings is that they still want to add Russell Westbrook even after their sign-and-trade to acquire Dennis Schroder,” Siegel reported.
Westbrook, 35, remains an unrestricted free agent after spending last season with the Denver Nuggets. He appeared in 75 games, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists, while shooting 44.9% from the field and 32.3% from deep.
A nine-time All-Star and the league’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, Westbrook has played for six NBA teams, including stops with the Thunder, Rockets, Wizards, Lakers, Clippers and Nuggets. He reached the NBA Finals with Oklahoma City in 2012 but has yet to capture a title.
Westbrook has past chemistry with several current Kings. He played alongside Schroder during their time with the Lakers, and teamed up with Domantas Sabonis in Oklahoma City (2016-17). He also has a relationship with both Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.
Sacramento missed the playoffs last season and made headlines in February by trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs.
Westbrook turns 37 in November.
