Rumor: Toronto Raptors Expected To Trade Former NBA Champion In 2024 Offseason
John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors finally decided to tear down the team to the studs. They had been holding onto pieces from their 2019 championship team but decided that it was time to rebuild. Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby were traded, and the team acquired picks and young talent. One piece they acquired in the Siakam trade was veteran guard Bruce Brown. Indiana signed him in the offseason, and then he made his way to Toronto in the trade. Rumors indicate the Raptors will see what they can get for the former NBA champion this offseason.

Toronto Raptors To Trade Bruce Brown?

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star was the first to report that the Toronto Raptors were looking to shop Bruce Brown. “The sense from a handful of league sources is that the Raptors are likely to pick up the option, then turn around and deal Brown quickly rather than wait until the 2025 trade deadline,” Smith said in his article. Brown signed a two-year, $45 million contract with the Pacers in the offseason. The second year is a team option.

The report indicates the Toronto Raptors will pick up the option and then use his salary to complete a trade. This team wants to get younger. Brown is a seasoned veteran who has playoff experience and championship pedigree. A contender could see him as the missing piece in their rotation and overpay to increase their odds of a championship.

Outlook For The Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have quality pieces on the roster. Former Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley are all under 25 and have shown great potential. First-round pick Gradey Dick looked like a bust but bounced back later in the season and looks to be a quality rotation piece. If the Raptors can continue to build their war chest of assets, they may be in a good position to land some big-name players in the future.

The NBA offseason is one of the most fun times of the year. Player movement is at an all-time high. While you can argue whether that is good for the sport, you cannot argue it isn’t good for entertainment. As the Toronto Raptors continue to rebuild, they should be involved in many trade talks as they look to gain more assets for the future.
