Russell Westbrook Makes Big Announcement on Tuesday

Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook is having a productive season in his 17th NBA campaign. The fourth-overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook is a nine-time All-Star and the 2017 league MVP.

In between his time in Oklahoma City and Denver, Westbrook played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers. A native of Los Angeles, Westbrook's time back home did not go as planned.

Despite averaging 15.3 points, 6.4 assists and 6.1 rebounds in 219 games for his hometown teams, Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz by the Lakers in 2023 and Clippers in 2024.

Off the court, Westbrook is very active in the community, particularly in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, the 36-year-old point guard announced on X that he is launching a newsletter that will further connect fans to who he is away from basketball.

Westbrook also announced this news on Instagram where he revealed the newsletter will focus on art, fashion and lifestyle. This increase on social media usage for Westbrook is relatively new, as he took some time away during his stint with the Lakers.

Facing a lot of fan backlash while in Los Angeles, Westbrook opened up in 2022 about harassment he and his family were facing from Lakers fans (via The Athletic). Westbrook made just two posts on X between October of 2022 and November of 2024. Both were promoting his interview with Forbes, as he otherwise stayed off the platform.

Seemingly in a better place now post-LA stint, Westbrook is active on social media again, and is now launching a newsletter.
