Since the end of the Las Vegas Summer League, the NBA offseason has quieted down a ton after a very busy start.
Of course, this is mainly due to most of the top free agents already being off the board, though there are still quite a few solid NBA veterans still available that could play a major role next season on a contending team’s roster.
Among these players is former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook who remains unsigned after putting together a solid season last year with the Denver Nuggets.
For Westbrook, he had struggled the prior two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers but he was able to turn things around last season in Denver.
In his lone season with the Nuggets, the 36-year-old guard averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44.9% from the field and 32.3% from three.
While Westbrook was able to revitalize his career last season, the former MVP has not seen a ton of interest from teams around the league this offseason in free agency and a report on Thursday revealed that one team may be his only option next season.
According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, the Sacramento Kings are the only option for Westbrook in free agency if he is going to play in the NBA next season.
“The Kings are the one home for Russell Westbrook if he’s going to be in the NBA at all,” Fischer wrote.

This is a massive report by Fischer and one that does not bode too well for Westbrook’s NBA future, especially since the Kings already have a full roster.
Despite this, there have been reports that Sacramento is trying to free up a spot on their roster to sign Westbrook in free agency and Malik Monk has even been mentioned as a potential trade piece for them to sign the veteran guard.
If the Kings are unable to free up a roster spot though, Westbrook may be out of options as it appears as though other teams are not interested in adding him this offseason.
While that may be the case, it would not be a surprise to see an unexpected contender join the sweepstakes for Westbrook before the start of the regular season but if that does not happen, the Kings may be his only option next season.
