Sacramento Kings Center Domantas Sabonis is in the midst of a historic three-game stretch. He has recorded a triple-double in three consecutive contests and is shooting a great 76.7% from the field over that period. That is the second-highest shooting percentage over three straight triple-doubles since Wilt Chamberlain shot 82.3% on March 15-18, 1968. Sabonis finds himself in wonderful company with his recent play.
The streak of triple-doubles began for Sabonis against the New York Knicks. He put up 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists. He followed it up with 21, 22, and 10 against the Brooklyn Nets before putting up 13, 14, and 11 on Wednesday against the Philadelphia 76ers. This great play from Sabonis has not led to success for the Sacramento Kings are 1-2 over the hot streak. Will he be able to secure a fourth straight triple-double?

Sabonis has been one of the league’s best players over the last few seasons. He began his NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers, but his career has taken off with the Sacramento Kings. He is a three-time NBA All-Star, has been named 3rd Team All-NBA twice, and has led the league in rebounding twice.
The star center is having the best three-game stretch of his NBA career after being snubbed for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Sabonis was not named a starter or reserve after having a great first half to the regular season. Sabonis is leading the league in rebounds and is eighth in field goal percentage. He is also leading the league with 32 double-doubles and is third with eight triple-doubles. It is unfortunate his career year has not led to him being named an all-star. Sabonis has used that as fuel for his recent play.

It has been a tumultuous 2024-25 campaign for the Sacramento Kings. The team fired Head Coach Mike Brown following a disappointing 13-18 start to the season. The team has gone 11-5 under Interim Head Coach Doug Christie. This has allowed the team to catapult up to the No. 10 spot in the Western Conference.
Sacramento has featured one of the league’s best offenses this season. They are sixth in points per game, 10th in field goal percentage, and one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA. Sacramento’s undoing has been their defense this season. They are 20th in points allowed and 14th in opposing field goal percentage. A great offense partnered with a below-average defense has the Sacramento Kings 12th in the league in point differential. They will fight to make the NBA Play-In Tournament for the remainder of the year.
The Sacramento Kings may look like a different team following the NBA Trade Deadline. Sacramento is reportedly looking to trade away All-NBA Guard De’Aaron Fox before the deadline. Fox and Sabonis helped the Sacramento Kings break its 16-year playoff drought during the 2022-2023 NBA season. They might not be together much longer.
Final Thoughts
Sabonis and the Kings hit the road tonight for a matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC will provide a stiff test for the Kings as they have the second-best record in the NBA. The Thunder visited the Kings in November and throttled them by 21, 130-109. Sabonis had an average game scoring 21 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and amassing 3 assists.

Explaining the Qualifying Offer and how it could benefit Jonathan Kuminga and Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas and Jonathan Kuminga are two players who are both restricted free agents currently involved in negotiations with their respective teams. These young stars have shown they have what it takes to lead their franchises, but have not been given the desired rookie extensions. Cam Thomas‘ talks with the Brooklyn Nets have broken down as he is not willing to accept the contract offer from the team. Jonathan Kuminga has been offered a two-year $45 million contract, but the team option on the final year is not something he is willing to agree to, which has led to his talks stalling with the Golden State Warriors. Both of these players have proven their talent in the league and that is one of the reasons their teams have not let them walk yet, but if no agreement is reached, Thomas and Kuminga could take the qualifying offer route. What is a qualifying offer? A qualifying offer is a one-year contract from the team; in Thomas’ case the Nets and in Kuminga’s case the Warriors. The value of the contract will be according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and will vary for both players. Under this contract, Thomas and Kuminga can veto any trade during the season. At the end of the contract, they will be unrestricted free agents, which means the Nets and Warriors will have no control over their landing spot. According to Jake Fischer, Thomas is likely to take the $6 million qualifying offer from the Nets to enter unrestricted free agency next offseason, while Kuminga could also sign his $7.9 million offer extended by the Warriors. They have a deadline until October 1 to sign the qualifying offer, which will give them control of their future. Signing the qualifying offer comes with risks Kuminga sent out a message on social media when he rejected the two-year deal offered by the Warriors. It suggested that he was ready to bet on himself and while anyone with natural abilities like Kuminga must do the same, the NBA can be unpredictable. The same is the case with Thomas as injuries are part and parcel of the game. If they suffer any serious setbacks that keep them out of the game for an extended period, their unrestricted free agency bet could prove to be unwise. Former Dallas Mavericks player Nerlens Noel rejected a massive four-year $70 million deal from the Mavs and signed a qualifying offer of $4.1 million to enter unrestricted free agency. However, a serious injury prevented him from playing a lot of games in the 2017-18 season and he had to eventually sign a two-year $3.7 million contract with the OKC Thunder the following year. Kuminga and Thomas have shown that they are willing to put in the work to back their belief. Both franchises will find it tough to replace the talent they have, but due to the CBA, teams have become really careful with their money and their reluctance in paying these young stars is another example of that.
Standout performances from Week 1 of NFL preseason: Rookie, backup QBs shine
The first week of the 2025 NFL preseason is officially in the books. Even though the games and results do not matter, there is still reason to pay attention to standout performances from around the league. Here are some of the best from this week's games. TreVeyon Henderson, RB, New England Patriots The Patriots need some game-changers on offense, and they may have found one in second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson. Henderson put on an immediate show in the Patriots' preseason opener, returning the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, rushing for 18 yards on his only carry and catching three passes. Skylar Thompson, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers Thompson is not likely to make the Steelers roster, but that doesn't mean he can't find a spot on another team. Especially if he puts together a strong preseason performance. He did exactly that on Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, completing 20-of-28 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns. With Aaron Rodgers unlikely to play in the preseason and Will Howard injured, Thompson should get plenty of reps to audition for other teams. Tanner McKee, QB, Philadelphia Eagles Following the offseason trade of Kenny Pickett, McKee is now pretty much cemented in as the Eagles' backup, and he had to give them a lot of confidence in his ability following his preseason performance against the Bengals. McKee torched the Bengals defense to the tune of 20-of-25 passing for 252 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. It is a nice continuation for McKee following his promising debut a year ago when he threw for 323 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions in his two appearances. Blake Corum, RB, Los Angeles Rams The Rams already have a starting running back in Kyren Williams, but there is nothing wrong with having a second productive player at the position. Corum didn't make the expected impact in his rookie season, but he had a promising preseason debut this year with two touchdowns in the first quarter against the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie quarterbacks Cleveland's Shedeur Sanders got the week off to a promising start by throwing two touchdowns against Carolina, taking a big step forward in his quest to win the team's starting quarterback job and to silence the critics following his slide in the draft. Jaxson Dart, one of the Giants' first-round picks, also had a strong showing by going 12-of-19 with 154 yards and a very impressive touchdown pass. Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, also had a strong debut by leading a touchdown drive and developing an instant connection with veteran wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Abdul Carter, DE, New York Giants Carter did not play a ton of snaps for the Giants, but he was a force when he did play. He recorded a quarterback pressure on all three of his pass-rush snaps and showed the type of quickness and speed that made him one of the best players in the 2025 NFL Draft class. Cam Little, K, Jacksonville Jaguars Look, when you kick a 70-yard field goal, you deserve to get some added recognition, whether it counts as an official league record or not. Little made all four field goal attempts, as well as an extra point, in the Jaguars' preseason debut.
Micah Parsons makes bold prediction about one incoming rookie
One incoming NFL rookie has already gotten the biggest stamp of approval from superstar linebacker Micah Parsons. New York Giants linebacker Abdul Carter only played six snaps Saturday during his team’s preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills. But he sure made them count. Carter generated three quarterback pressures on his three pass rushes. He also held his own against four-time Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkins in a couple of one-on-one matchups. The clip above caught the eye of Parsons. The Dallas Cowboys star predicted that Carter could surpass every other pass rusher in the NFL if he reaches his potential. “They asked me if Abdul could be a [sic] another great ! I told them he could be the best one!” Parsons wrote on X. Parsons may be considered biased, given that the Penn State alum shares an alma mater with Carter. However, many NFL scouts and front offices agree that Carter has that superstar gene similar to Parsons. The Giants picked Carter with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout final season at Penn State. The former Nittany Lion tallied 12.0 sacks and 24 tackles for a loss over 16 games as a junior. Carter got into some controversy in April after he requested to use Lawrence Taylor’s retired No. 56 as his jersey number. Taylor refused and instead challenged Carter to make his own number famous. After later asking for another Giants legend’s number, Carter finally settled on a different set of digits.

A somewhat familiar look is coming back to center ice at Little Caesars Arena, which has been the home of the Detroit Red Wings since 2017. A special fan polling has resulted in the announcement that the iconic former 'Hockeytown' logo from Joe Louis Arena, their former home, is coming back as part of a new special logo for the team's 100th year. The center ice fan vote, launched in partnership with Meijer, was a great way to get fans involved in Red Wings Centennial right from the start. Through an incredible response to this vote, fans have made it clear they're fired up for what's to come in celebrating 100 years of Hockeytown, which is only possible due to their unwavering support for the Winged Wheel. The Red Wings featured the 'Hockeytown' logo at Joe Louis Arena in 1996, which remained until the building's closure in 2017. The Red Wings then used the same logo in their 1st year at Little Caesars Arena, but since then have just utilized a large team logo. The Red Wings celebrate their 100th year in the NHL The Red Wings were founded in 1926, but are in the midst of the longest drought of postseason hockey in their history. Considering that they've now been around for 100 years, that postseason absence is a surprising statistic. Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman has started to feel some heat for having not been able to get the team to the postseason in each of his first 6 years on the job.
