Sacramento Kings' 'Dream Offseason' Revealed Amid Ongoing Rumors: Report

The Sacramento Kings entered the NBA offseason with a key decision to make whether they wanted to keep their core together and compete for a playoff spot next season or begin a rebuild.

While many around the league expected them to begin a rebuild after trading De’Aaron Fox last season, Sacramento has instead elected to keep their core and upgrade their roster to hunt a playoff spot next season in the loaded Western Conference.

So far this summer, the Kings have added Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and they also landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons.

While these additions did fill some holes in their roster, the Kings may still be a few moves away to be a legitimate playoff threat next season and their “dream offseason” was recently revealed.

According to Forbes’ Evan Sidery, the Kings’ dream offseason is the land both Jonathan Kuminga and Russell Westbrook.

Of course, both players have been linked to the Kings for most of the offseason but one is much easier to land than the other.

That would be Westbrook as he is currently an unrestricted free agent and is reportedly interested in signing in Sacramento.

On the other side, acquiring Kuminga would be a much tougher move for the Kings to make as the Golden State Warriors have already shut down multiple trade offers for him.

Despite this, the Kings do still have an opportunity to upgrade their trade package for the young forward that would fulfill the Warriors’ asking price for him as Sacramento has already offered Kuminga a contract in free agency.

If the Kings are able to pull off a sign-and-trade for Kuminga and also land Westbrook, it would be a solid offseason for them as they would upgrade their point guard position while also adding a key wing player that they can also build around in the future if they continue to struggle.

While that may be the case, it will still be difficult for the Kings to secure a playoff spot next season with multiple teams in the West upgrading their rosters this summer.
