The Sacramento Kings will not have a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft unless they trade their way up, and with limited draft capital even after parting ways with De'Aaron Fox, fans aren't expecting premier young talent to join the roster this season.
As things stand, the Kings will pick 42nd overall. In a loaded draft class, there is a chance that the Kings will be able to land a solid talent with that pick, although the franchise's draft-day history suggests that won't be the case.
Still, the Kings are doing their due diligence and have invited six players to work out for them.
Kevin John of ABC 10 first reported the list of invitees to work out for the Kings. All of the players come from major NCAA programs
Silas Demary (Georgia), Wooga Poplar (Villanova), Tamar Bates (Missouri), Darrion Williams (Texas Tech), Amari Williams (Kentucky), and Rueben Chinyelu (Florida) will be in Sacramento on Monday to showcase their skills.
Poplar made the All-Big East team, Darrion Williams was twice a member of the All-Big 12 team, and Chinyelu won the national title with the Gators.
Interestingly, none of the players listed play point guard, which seems to be an offseason priority for the Kings to add. Granted, in the second round, you're mostly getting older college players whose eligibility is almost up, so beggars can't be choosers, although drafting for need in the second round does sound like a viable strategy.
The draft will be on June 25, so the Kings still have well over a month to solidify who they want to select.
